Reverend Rooks was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He grew up in the Chicago area and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at 12 years of age. He discovered that he had been blessed with the gift of understanding and teaching the Word of God the same year. He used this gift to teach peer Sunday School classes. He continued to teach and serve in various youth organizations in the Church as well as with local Christian organizations statewide. He attended college with Academic and Athletic scholarships and served as an Army officer in Viet Nam. While serving in Viet Nam, he realized that God had given him a Calling to Service for Him. God prepared Reverend Rooks by ensuring that he served in every area of the church after returning to the United States.
Those areas included Choirs, Ushering, Trustees, Church Financial Secretary, Sunday School and Bible Study Instructor and finally becoming an Ordained Deacon. He heard his call to the preaching ministry and began to preach while still a deacon at Mount Calvary in Fort Wayne, IN. He was licensed in 1988 and ordained in 1991 by the Southern Baptist Association in Dallas, Texas. Since receiving his license, he has served as Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastor in Dallas, Director of Christian Education in San Jose and is currently the Moderator for the Salem District of Denver as well as the Director of Missions for the GMBC of Colorado and the Commissioner for Foreign Missions of the National Missionary Baptist Fellowship of Churches. He has also served as a missionary to Africa and the Caribbean including Haiti and Dominican Republic for an Interdenominational church group for twelve years.
His religious training includes numerous religious seminars, Fort Wayne Bible College, and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He is a graduate of Jackson State University. Married to Elizabeth Rooks, they are the parents of nine natural and adopted children.
